Dallas Mavericks vs. Miami Heat Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 4-10-2024 – Stat Salt

[ad_1]

On Wednesday night, the Dallas Mavericks head to the Kaseya Center for a road meeting against the Miami Heat. The Mavericks and Heat play Tuesday and will be on the second leg of a back-to-back for this inter-conference matchup. The tip is at 7:40 PM ET. Miami opens as a home favorite.

Mavericks Win Thriller

Dante Exum forced overtime with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer, and the Mavericks dominated the extra period en route to a 147-136 win. Kyrie Irving scored a season-high 48 points and Luka Doncic had 37 points, 12 assists, and nine rebounds. The Mavericks have won 14 of 16 and hold a two-game lead over the Phoenix Suns for the fifth seed in the Western Conference. Irving, who scored 25 points in the fourth quarter and overtime, put Dallas ahead for good in the extra period at 133-131 with two free throws.

P.J. Washington had 14 points and 13 rebounds in another strong appearance. “I’m depleted. Energetic, but I’m depleted,” said Irving. “We kept battling and kept doing the little things and trusting one another.” Doncic returned from a one-game absence due to right knee soreness, and he was one rebound shy of registering his 21st triple-double of the season Sunday. He has been on a rampage. Over his last 10 games, Doncic has averaged 31.1 points, 10.6 rebounds, 9.6 assists, and 1.6 steals over 38.5 minutes per game. Derrick Lively and Josh Green remain out.

Heat on a Back to Back

Miami plays in Atlanta on Tuesday night and will be on the second leg of a back-to-back for this contest. Two nights ago, they lost 117-115 against the Indiana Pacers. They trail the Pacers by 1.5 games for the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference. Jimmy Butler had 27 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists and Tyler Herro scored 21 points. Butler led all players in Sunday’s contest in scoring while going perfect from the charity stripe to go along with a team-high assist total. He also finished second on the team in rebounds.

Bam Adebayo and Caleb Martin each scored 20. They lost for just the second time in six games as they tried to avoid staying in the league’s Play-In tournament. “You want to end up playing games of meaning, but when you say they are games of meaning, that also means they are games of consequences,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “That’s the whole point of this right now in both conferences. There’s going to be wild swings of emotion.” Indiana now holds tiebreakers for winning season series against Milwaukee, New York, Miami, and Philadelphia. The Heat are looking like the seventh seed, with three games remaining.

Rating:

The Heat are in a dogfight for the Eastern Conference’s sixth seed, but they were delivered a big blow after a loss to Indiana. They trail the Pacers by 1.5 games without holding the tiebreaker. With just three games remaining, it is looking likely the Heat notch the seventh seed in the play-in tournament. Miami plays in Atlanta on Tuesday night and will be on the second leg of a back-to-back for this contest. They may opt to rest players in the first set before this game against Miami. Over their last 10 games against Dallas, they are shooting a modest 46%. I like them to persevere against a Mavericks team that looks like it has the fifth seed locked up. Take the Heat.

Prediction: Miami Heat ML

Rating:

Dallas, like the Heat, plays Tuesday night and will be on the second leg of a back-to-back. Irving went back to his primary role as a scorer with Luka Doncic returning from a one-game absence due to right knee soreness. Sunday marked the third time this season that Irving scored 40-plus points. Over his last 10 games, he has averaged 27.6 points on 52.3 percent shooting (including 38.7 percent from three on 7.5 attempts per game), 4.5 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.3 steals over 37.6 minutes. Considering Miami’s pace (28th), Kyrie will not get the same opportunities he had last game against the Rockets, and although a 25+ point performance is possible, Dallas will not duplicate the explosive 147 points they scored against Houston. Take the under.

Prediction: UNDER
