A fake Masters invite signed by defending champion Jon Rahm has gone viral on social media, with a reference to the iconic Adam Sandler film, ‘Happy Gilmore’.

Rahm won the green jacket for the very first time at Augusta National last April, seeing off challenges from Brooks Koepka and Phil Mickelson on the way to a famous victory. Twelve months on, the Spaniard will return to Georgia to defend his title, but will do so as a member of LIV Golf.

The two-time major champion became arguably LIV’s biggest coup yet last December, as Rahm signed a record-breaking deal worth a reported £450million to join Greg Norman and co.

The Spaniard became the latest big name to defect from the PGA Tour to the Saudi-backed league, who have found themselves at war since the latter’s inception in June 2022. Rahm will reunite with his PGA Tour rivals at Augusta, giving one golf fan the genius idea to edit a Happy Gilmore-inspired invite to his champions dinner.

Rahm will host a group of fellow Masters champions at Augusta’s pre-tournament dinner, and will pen an invite to each of them. The edited version left golf fans laughing on social media, which included the line: “PGA Tour guys, kindly meet on the ninth green at 9pm.”

This is of course a nod to the iconic line delivered by Shooter McGavin to Happy Gilmore in the 1996 film, which saw the experienced former prank the Tour newbie latter by turning on the green-side sprinklers. An account dedicated to McGavin – played by Christoper McDonald – shared the mock-up on X on Monday morning.
