That’s never been done, and only increases the hunger and probability that someone puts the 2022-23 treble winners under serious duress at some point this season.

Liverpool has been atop the Premier League table but Arsenal has cut into the Reds’ lead and Man City is leading the division in points-per-game. There’s a crowded field of chasers and there isn’t much between these teams, as Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur are also eyeing up the top. And might Manchester United be in the top four picture? There’s a massive scrap for elbow room, but City is definitely the club looming large with reputation and experience.

Last season

Here is a link to the Premier League table from the 2022-23 season, as Manchester City surged to a third-straight Premier League title after Arsenal led the way for most of the campaign.

Who are the title, European contenders?

Manchester City passed leaders Liverpool early Saturday by moving onto 52 points but the Reds went right back into first by the end of the day (54). City have a match-in-hand on the Reds. Arsenal’s on 52 points, too, as both Mikel Arteta and mentor Pep Guardiola know they can rival Jurgen Klopp. Aston Villa and Tottenham aren’t too far away from the mix. Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp have navigated just two defeats all season long and look to be the main contenders for City but Arsenal are doing their best to hang in there and their big win against Liverpool in Matchweek 23 has seen confidence grow amongst the Gunners.

Brighton and Newcastle United were in the top four hunt and are hopeful but the schedule congestion and depth issues have hit hard as both juggled European campaigns (and Brighton still have that to come in the early spring too) has sent them backwards on the table and they’re more likely to be be battling for a Europa League spot.

Relegation scrappers and rebuilders

New boys Luton Town, Burnley, and Sheffield United are fighting to stay in the Premier League, while Nottingham Forest and Brentford look like they could be struggling with the former charged by the Premier League for breaching financial rules and the latter struggling badly with big injuries and hoping they can keep hold of the returning Ivan Toney. The rebuilds for both Manchester United and Chelsea are short of the top four and pressure is mounting on Erik ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino respectively. Tottenham, again, look much further ahead and Ange Postecoglou has created one of Europe’s most exciting teams to watch.

Will Everton be relegated?

After being given a 10-point deduction for breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, Everton’s promising start to the season evaporated and there is now the threat of a further points deduction. Can Sean Dyche guide the Toffees to safety? He had Everton above the line and rising but a poor run of results over the festive period put the Toffees in the relegation zone. Can they climb out as they aim to avoid a first-ever relegation from the Premier League?

Which American players are in the Premier League this season?

We’ll update the 2023-24 Premier League table in this space all season, as American fans sees which of their USMNT players can finish highest on the table amongst Matt Turner and Gio Reyna (Nottingham Forest), Auston Trusty (Sheffield United), Tyler Adams (yet to feature in the PL for Bournemouth due to ongoing hamstring issues) and both Tim Ream and Antonee Robinson of Fulham. Burnley’s Luca Koleosho is USMNT-eligible and represented the U.S. at the U-15 level but has since represented Italy at two youth levels and after a bright start to his first-ever Premier League campaign the teenager has suffered a serious knee injury.
